A Private Bespoke Session with Ismail Izzani
Perfumery is like a symphony. It has a beginning, middle and an end. While musical notes make up a song composition, in perfumery; the ingredients are also called notes, and categorized in three categories: top, middle or heart and base notes; which are blended together to create perfect compositions of scents. This analogy hits home to a singer/songwriter.
We had the pleasure of hosting ISMAIL IZZANI, a young, rising star in the local music industry; for a bespoke perfume creation session at our perfume lounge recently. See his earlier hit song "Sabar" here or his latest trending music video on YouTube, "Ada Cara" here. This was the first single from his new album.
To be honest, I had not been exposed to his craft and vice versa prior to meeting him; even though he had been in the music scene since 2016. I was not his target demographics. But after watching his music videos, I recognised the talent this young man possessed and warmed up to his lovable personality almost immediately. To me, he had grown tremendously as an artist and grown up into an admirable young man. You could see the transformation in both aspects when you watched and compared his earlier videos to the latest. He reminded me of the late Glenn Fredly for his performance of "Sabar" (his voice control was so reminiscent of "Glenn") and understood why he was called the Bieber of Malaysia. To me, he is coming into his own style and vibe in his latest video release and I could not have been prouder and happier for him.
He is our youngest muse to-date for a bespoke creation. Like a sponge, he could absorb my sharing on perfumery and sharing it back to his crew as if he have been part of the OLFAC3 Perfumes' family for years.

Top notes: The scents that are perceived immediately on application of a perfume. Top notes consist of small, light molecules that evaporate quickly; mainly citrus, aromatic florals, aquatic and green notes are considered top notes. They form the initial impression of a perfume.
Middle/Heart notes: The scent of a perfume that emerges just prior to when the top notes dissipate. The middle note compounds form the “heart” or main body of a perfume and act to mask the often unpleasant initial impression of base notes, which become more pleasant with time. Examples of heart notes are mainly floral, fruity and gourmand accords such as magnolia, peach and chocolate.
Base notes: The scent of a perfume that develops as the other scents dissipate. The base and middle notes together are the main theme of a perfume. Base notes bring depth and solidity to a perfume, mainly wood and spices accords. Compounds of this class of scents are typically rich and “deep.”
A perfect perfume blend will consists of ingredients from the three notes, balanced in perfect harmony to create a singular new scent that has the ability to tug on your heart strings.
Ismail's bespoke composition is an aquatic wood featuring marine note as the introduction to his perfume. Heart notes featuring magnolia, neroli and ylang-ylang with a touch of gourmand note of almond, the playfulness of cassis and Virginian cedar wood to represent his youthfulness and amber core base notes. Aptly, he named it II Marine.

About our Perfume Creation Workshop
You can discover the notes that make up the groupings of scents, learn the basics of composing a perfume and blend your very own perfume at our private perfume creation workshop. Workshops are conducted at our perfume lounge at GMBB KL for a 3 hours' of fun discovery and learning at RM300 per participant, with a minimum requirement of 3 participants and a maximum of 5 per session. Social distancing measures will be observed.
